The financial case

Hospital savings calculator

Explore what lower energy bills could mean for your hospital.

Your hospital’s numbers

Grey figures are examples only. Enter your own assumptions to calculate.

Energy used to heat and cool the hospital areas covered by PRS. Exclude lighting, medical equipment, hot water and other unrelated energy use. The £8m figure is an illustration, not a typical hospital bill.

Include equipment, installation and commissioning.

Use a reduction that already accounts for the electricity used by PRS. This applies only to the energy cost entered above.

Include ongoing maintenance and replacement allowances. 10% is an example, not a PRS quotation. Enter 0 only if no annual cost applies.

How the estimate works

Annual savings

Relevant annual energy cost × expected reduction, less annual servicing and maintenance.

Payback and five-year benefit

Installation cost ÷ annual net savings. Five-year benefit is five years of net savings less the initial investment.

This simple model assumes a full year of operation from year one, constant energy prices, savings and maintenance costs. It excludes financing, tax, inflation and discounting. It does not assign a financial value to clinical outcomes. Ventilation suitability and achievable savings need a hospital-specific assessment.

PRS describes potential energy reductions through increased air recirculation. Its published ranges do not establish savings for your hospital. Read PRS’s energy-saving explanation.
